Totally Serious Top 10 Video Game Sidekicks we LOVE

This is going to be one of those lists that may be divisive, but our next title on the publishing docket has a lovely little sidekick in it so it’s prime time to see what your opinions are on the best plus one’s in gaming. Here’s some of our favourite sidekicks.

Aku Aku - Crash Bandicoot

Source: Steam

Kicking off with an icon, Aku Aku was an important wise man of many childhoods. We were convinced he knew the meaning of life, and that was to play Crash Bandicoot.

Death - Manual Samuel/ The Holy Gosh Darn

Source: Steam

Making the literal harbinger of the end of life a sidekick is a real choice, but if you’ve had the good taste to play Manual Samuel or The Holy Gosh Darn then you’ll know, turns out Death is actually a pretty sound bloke (He can do a kickflip!).

Dogmeat - Fallout

Source: Steam

Can you believe we only put one dog on this list? Well done us. Dogmeat you legend, goodest of boys, where would Fallout be without you.

Adoring Fan - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

If you hate Adoring Fan then you’re not doing it right. Lil’ blondie is the ultimate hype man and you know it wouldn’t be the same without him, even if you do end up launching him off the side of a cliff, you had fun doing it, right?

B-12 - Stray

Source: Steam

How to make a cat game even cuter? Give the cat a pet robot. Heart wrenching yes, but oh cutesy little robot helps orange kitty woo!!!

Navi - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Hey! Listen! Some people love her, some people can’t stand her, but Navi is quintessential to a sidekick list.

Jimbo - Balatro

Source: Balatro

Icon of a roguelike revolution. Has kept Ben Starr extra busy for a good while too. Jimbo’s everyone’s favourite sarcastic jester and we roguelike lovers are of course putting him on our list.

A random wolf - Minecraft

Minecraft is Nintendogs. Change our minds.

Bing Bong - Peak

From divorcee to Bbno$ back up dancer, oh Bing Bong how you captivated 2025. We’d never climb to the Peak without you. Maybe Alex Honnold needs a Bing Bong for his next stunt.

Beesle - Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times

Source: Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times

As sassy as she is helpful, Beesle’s got your back! When you’re one of the last people left in the realm, it’s good to have a little friend to accompany you. Your fiendish gem bug buddy is waiting for you…
